Shelbyville, Indiana · Est. 1985
No shortcuts. No microwave. Just a pressure cooker, a cast-iron pot, and three generations of knowing exactly when the gravy is ready.
From Our Kitchen
Every dish on this menu has been tested, tasted, and approved by the same woman who's been cooking here since before the highway was paved.
Pressure-cooked for hours until a fork cuts through it like butter. Served with carrots that absorbed the gravy and potatoes that tasted like Sunday afternoon.
Buttermilk-marinated, double-dredged, and fried in fresh oil every morning. The crust cracks before the meat even hits your plate.
Baked every night for the next day. Apple, cherry, peach — we don't do frozen. If you're driving by at 4 p.m., you might still catch the last slice.
Not the kind from a box. Ground chuck, onions, a touch of brown sugar in the glaze. Served with whipped potatoes and a pool of brown gravy.
Crisp lettuce, tomatoes from the garden out back, hard-boiled eggs, and dressings you actually recognize. A light counterpoint to everything else we do.
Fresh pot, bottomless refills, and chairs that don't rush you. We've had retirees here since dawn and families winding down after church.
Our Story
Bev started cooking in a rented room above a gas station in 1985. She had one table, a secondhand fryer, and a recipe notebook that belonged to her mother. People came from Shelbyville and the surrounding counties because word got around — the food here wasn't rushed, and nobody pretended it was anything other than what it was: good, honest food made the old way.
Today, the address has changed, but the kitchen hasn't. We still pressure-cook the roast. We still bake the pies the night before. We still know our regulars by name and remember how they like their coffee. That's not a policy. That's just how we've always done it.
